Virokan is used to reduce the effect of herpes simplex virus, whether in the skin or mucous membranes, including primary or recurrent infection. It is also used to treat genital herpes, which may cause annoying symptoms. It is prescribed to treat herpes zoster, also known as shingles.
Virokan can also be used as part of preventive treatment to reduce the possibility of recurrence of viral infection in people who suffer from a weak immune system or are prone to repeated infection.
